The music started with a fun, live version of “Barbara Ann” from The Beach Boys.  It starts out with the typical Bah Bah Bah, with someone blurting out “Black Sheep have you any wool”.

The first song from earlier this morning was “Do You Wanna Dance” by The Beach Boys.

Favorite Line:

Do you want to dance under the moonlight
Hold me baby all through the night

I’ve probably watched more documentaries in the past week or so than I have in say the previous 5 years.

“Making Pet Sounds” by The Beach Boys was one of the first ones I watched.

It was interesting to see the hands on creation of various songs. I’ve heard audio versions of various takes and hearing them comment, more of this, less of that, but to see and hear it made it a bit more interesting.

A little bit ago, the music opened with a live version of The Beach Boys classic “Good Vibrations”. It was a fun version with Mike Love urging the crowd to sing along. First it was “just the ladies”, then it was “now the gentleman” and then finally a bit rabid “NOW EVERYBODY”.

It would be fun to see them live and I wouldn’t pass up a legitimate chance but it wouldn’t be the same without the missing pieces that have left us.

The music kicks off with a live version of “California Girls”, by The Beach Boys. I love most of their music but it is exponentially better when you are sitting on the beach with a cool breeze coming off the deep blue sea. This one could have easily been in my top 100 songs.

One night at a little dive bar where I used to live there was a guy playing cover songs with a banjo. He had a Springsteenish vibe to his voice and could really play the banjo. He played “California Girls” and it was simply magical with the pluck of a string replacing the organ.

Favorite Line:

The West coast has the sunshine
And the girls all get so tanned
I dig a french bikini on Hawaii island
Dolls by a palm tree in the sand

I’m pickin’ up good vibrations
She’s giving me excitations (Oom bop bop)
I’m pickin’ up good vibrations (Good vibrations, oom bop bop)
She’s giving me excitations (Excitations, oom bop bop)
Good, good, good, good vibrations (Oom bop bop)
She’s giving me excitations (Excitations, oom bop bop)
Good, good, good, good vibrations (Oom bop bop)
She’s giving me excitations (Excitations)

(Ah, my my, what elation)
I don’t know where but she sends me there

“Good Vibrations”, The Beach Boys

“Good Vibrations”, The Beach Boys,

This is easily my favorite Beach Boys song, which made it hard to pick a version of this song to include as the video for “My top 100 songs”..  So let’s go mid 70′s beards, ascots and Dennis Wilson on the drums in a Panama hat.
